SWISSLOG is slow - How can  I speed up SWISSLOG 

Question

Entering QSOs in SWISSLOG is slow with a slow PC and not enough memory. Are there any options which can be set to make the QSO entry function faster ? 

Answer

When You enter a call in the SWISSLOG QSO-Entry-Window  and when You save a QSO many functions are performed. By setting the correct options, You can prevent SWISSLOG of performing some of the time consuming functions.

  • Deactivate Statistics

By default all statistics are active. Active means that each time you enter a new QSO all Statistics are checked to see if the QSO qualifies for the Statistic. It's obvious that this needs some CPU processing time; therefore you can deactivate Statistics in which your not interested.

  • Disable the 'Update world map automatically' option

The world map is automatically updated when you enter a call. You can disable this function by unchecking the corresponding checkmark in the Options for Add QSOs Function

 

  • Disable the automatic refresh of the Logbook Views

Make sure that the option 'Refresh View automatically' is off for all Logbook-Views You have open. This option causes a re-read of all QSO-Records and may take a long time if you have many QSOs in the log. To disable this option, press the right mouse button in the logbook-view and uncheck the option.

  • Use a simple logbook ind the Logbook-View

A SWISSLOG QSO contains many fields (about 130!). Only a few of them need to be displayed in the logbook of every days use. Loading fields from the DB needs much time. Therefore use a Query with only the fields You need to see all the time and use this in the Logbook view for Your daily work. Never use the  Query 'Logbook many Fields (slow)'.  Try to use the Query 'SIMPLE LOGBOOK' . See Logbook View – Using Queries for more details.

 

  • Close all information Windows which are automatically updated

The following windows are updated automatically if a new call is entered and if a QSO is stored. Closing these windows prevents the update functions to be performed:

  • Statistic-Quick-Info Window
  • Statistic-Quick-View Window
  • Propagation Prediction

  • Make sure, that the Internet Callbook DBs are not accessed

SWISSLOG can access Callbook DBs on internet in real time. If You do not have a fast Internet access, You sould disable this access. For more details see Callbook Database Support.
