Richard W7YES has sent me the following information:
I was reading the discussion page and noticed some users are having trouble
with the CAT interface. As a few guys mentioned, there's a trend with newer computers that's replacing the serial comm. ports with USB ports. (I imagine it will take the ham radio manufactures a while to catch up with the trend.) In any case, I found a serial to USB adapter cable that works great for me. I have two Sony computers; one computer has serial ports, and the later model has USB ports. I use the USB adapter cable and it has been working without any problems. Here is a link to one source of the adapters -- they should be available everywhere (since they come from China).https://www.coolgear.com/productdetails1.cfm?sku=162XUSBG-232&cats=106&catid=106,602,199
The cable adapters come with software for various Windows versions; one nice
thing with Win XP, it recognized the adapter and installed it via 'plug and play' and didn't require any intervention or drivers from the manufacturers CD. Also, these adapters allow comm. address up to COM256. Maybe this will help some of the guys. All the best,
Richard
